This healthy, delicious and creamy immune-boosting smoothie made with pineapple, orange, banana, lemon juice, orange peel, turmeric, ginger, and almond milk.  It’s naturally sweetened with frozen fruit and loaded with vitamins and antioxidants that help keep the immune system in tip-top shape (goodbye colds)!

My daily smoothies usually consist of some or all of these ingredients and I keep most ingredients in the freezer ready to go.

How To Make An Immune Boosting Smoothie:

    Step 1:  Gather the ingredients.

For the printable recipe and tips and substitutions, see further down in the post.

Step 2:  Measure the ingredients.  1/2 an organic orange, 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 banana peeled and cut into chunks, 1/3 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1 small piece (about 1/4 inch) of orange peel, a small piece of fresh ginger (about 1/4 inch), 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon (or small piece of fresh) turmeric powder, a pinch of freshly ground black pepper.

Step 3:  Add the ingredients to a blender and blend for a few minutes until creamy and smooth.  Pour and enjoy!

    Tips and Substitutions:

    • You could substitute another non-dairy milk.
    • Substitute extra pineapple for the banana.
    • Try adding a handful of greens, like spinach, which you cannot taste, but will give added vitamins.
    • Add a pinch of black pepper which is reported to increase turmeric’s effectiveness.
    • If the smoothie is too thick, add a bit more liquid (water or dairy-free milk).  If the smoothie is too thin, add more frozen fruits or ice.
    • Swap out the fruits used for what you have on hand.  (E.g. Pineapple for mango, orange for strawberry, blueberries, etc..).
    • Freeze ingredients – cut the skin off an organic orange, cut into small pieces and put in a ziplock baggie.  Do the same with fresh ginger root.
    • Add some honey (Manuka or raw is great) or maple syrup if the smoothie is not sweet enough for you.

Immune Boosting Foods In This Smoothie:

Lemon Juice:  Lemon is loaded with vitamin C, which can help to boost the immune.  Plus, it tastes refreshing.

Banana: Frozen banana adds creaminess to any smoothie, and have many nutrients including iron, zinc, Vitamin A, along with potassium.

Pineapple: Pineapple is known for its anti-inflammatory properties which can help heal sore throats.

Ginger root: Fresh ginger makes all the difference in flavoring this dish; it also helps with digestive issues, reducing inflammation and even pain.

Orange: Loaded with Vitamin C which protects and boosts the immune system, it is an extra delicious element in this smoothie.  Freshly juiced of course!

Orange Peel:  Orange Peels are rich in vitamins A and C, which makes them a natural antioxidant that helps boost your immune system and fight off germs and viruses.

Turmeric root: Turmeric is an easy and natural way to boost the immune system.  Its most important compound is curcumin.  Turmeric can be found in either powder or root form, turmeric contains powerful anti-inflammatory properties.  TIp:  to boost the effectiveness of turmeric add a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper (you won’t be able to taste in the smoothie).

Ground cinnamon: Tastes great in this smoothie, and cinnamon is known to have blood-sugar-lowering properties, as well as helps to fight off colds as an immune stimulator.

Unsweetened Almond milk: Helps to blend up the smoothie nice and creamy.  Substitute another dairy-free milk or water.
