Craving chocolate but want to stay healthy? A dairy-free Cacao Smoothie is creamy, sweetened with only fruit, and rich in chocolate flavor is the answer.
Plus, it’s super easy to make and whips up in just a few minutes.
During a recent house renovation DIY project, with only moments to spare each day, this smoothie saved me every day, as the perfect snack, and kept me going.
Ingredients For A Vegan Cacao Smoothie:
- Almond milk
- Creamy almond butter
- Raw organic cacao powder
- vanilla extract (optional)
- frozen banana
- sea salt
- ice cubes
The mid-afternoon is when you’ll find me making this smoothie. Craving something sweet and chocolate, but too close to dinner to eat a dessert. Since it only takes a few minutes, it doesn’t derail any plans or take me away from projects for too long.
You could make this a Cacao Avocado Smoothie by adding some avocado and it would make it even creamier.
How does a Cacao Green Smoothie sound? Just add a handful of spinach! Note: I have not tried a cacao avocado or cacao green smoothie yet, but they are great ideas.
Cacao Smoothie No Banana?
You could make this smoothie without a banana (which I have not tried), but it is the sweetener and creates most of the creaminess in this smoothie. A possible substitution would be maple syrup, more almond butter, or perhaps avocado or a Japanese sweet potato.
What You Will Love About This Creamy Cacao Smoothie:
- tastes like a chocolate shake.
- Fast and easy
- Paleo, vegan, grain, gluten and dairy free
- healthier ingredients including raw organic cacao powder
Cacao vs. Cocoa – Raw, organic cacao powder and cocoa powder are processed differently. Cococa powdered is processed at a higher temperature.
“That means that cacao, which is less processed, has more powerful antioxidant effects and health benefits.”
Is cacao really good for you? Cacao is rich in nutrients such as magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper, and manganese. Plus, it is reported to contain antioxidants, help regulate insulin levels and lower blood pressure.
So, even on days when I have a paintbrush in one hand and a roller in the other, this smoothie comes to my rescue. 🙂
