No doubt about it, winter is coming to New England. Temperatures are falling, and some days the blustery wind whips all around. Outdoor walks mean layers of warm clothing.
And a steaming cup of vegan hot chocolate!
Ingredients Needed For Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate:

- Organic Raw Cacao Powder
- Maple Syrup
- Pinch of salt (optional)
What You Will Love About This Vegan Hot Chocolate:
- Super easy to make
- Naturally sweetened
- Healthier than pre-made store-bought mixes.
How To Make Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate:
- Place the almond milk, maple syrup, and organic cacao powder in a medium-sized saucepan over medium low heat.
- Using a whisk (as shown below), whisk until all the ingredients are mixed well and the temperature of the hot chocolate is just below boiling.
- Pour into 2 mugs and enjoy!
Tip: Just warm your dairy-free hot chocolate to just below boiling. Keep an eye on the saucepan at all times, as it just takes a moment to burn. Burnt chocolate is not delicious!
This dairy-free hot chocolate balances healthier ingredients and can be your own gluten-free, dairy-free hot chocolate mix. When not in the mood for my other favorite, Paleo Pumpkin Spice Latte, this is the drink to warm me up!
A recipe so easy it’s almost not a recipe. Customize to your desires – add more cacao if you like a deep dark chocolate flavor, substitute the sweetener, add a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract. Add a scoop of coconut non-dairy whipped cream!
Benefits of Organic Raw Cacao Powder:
“Raw cacao powder contains more than 300 different chemical compounds and nearly four times the antioxidant power of your average dark chocolate – more than 20 times than that of blueberries.”
Are cocoa and cacao powder the same thing? “Raw cacao powder is made by cold-pressing unroasted cocoa beans. The process keeps the living enzymes in the cocoa and removes the fat (cacao butter). Cocoa looks the same but it’s not. Cocoa powder is raw cacao that’s been roasted at high temperatures.”
This recipe only takes a few minutes. It’s a little like waving a magic wand and its ready!
