Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups dairy-free milk (I like the creaminess of coconut milk, but any vegan milk will work well).
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (cacao powder or cocoa powder)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • Pinch salt (fine sea salt or salt of choice)

Instructions

  1. Place all of the ingredients in a  medium-sized saucepan over medium-low heat.

  2. Whisk the ingredients in the saucepan until smooth, creamy, and hot.

  3. Pour hot chocolate into mugs and garnish as desired.

Recipe Notes

Recipe Tips:

  • Add a drop of peppermint oil for a festive holiday peppermint hot chocolate.
  • I topped my hot chocolate with coconut milk whipped cream (storebought, but there is a recipe on this site).
  • Milk substitute:  use water or any milk you choose.
  • Holiday fun: use a candy cane stirrer.
  • Use cocoa powder or cacao powder.
  • Optional add-ins: a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, and/or vanilla extract.
  • Garnish with cacao nibs, cinnamon stick, shaved chocolate, vegan whipped cream.
