Wassail Recipe

This wassail recipe is a delicious hot holiday drink sure to become a favorite!  This wassail is a spin on the traditional recipe. Just a few ingredients and you'll have the most festive beverage.

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts cranberry grape juice
  • 2 1/2 cups apple juice
  • 1 1/4 cups orange juice
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar, optional (may sub brown sugar)
  • 3 Cinnamon sticks (to fit into serving glasses use 3-inch cinnamon stick)
  • 4 Star anise
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 3/4 cup dark rum or bourbon

Instructions

  1. Combine all the ingredients, except the alcohol and garnishes in a large slow cooker or crockpot and heat on high for one hour.

  2. Reduce heat to low, add the alcohol, and simmer for 4-8 hours or until ready to serve and drink.

  3. Strain spices and garnish individual servings with sliced apples, orange slices (studded with cloves if preferred), whole cranberries, or star anise as desired.

Recipe Notes

Recipe Tips:

  • Garnish with cinnamon sticks, star anise, cranberries, and/or fruit peels.
  • This recipe can be made non-alcoholic, just omit the alcohol from the recipe.
  • Test it and for a stronger drink, add more alcohol.
  • Do not add the liquor until you have lowered the temperature to low, otherwise, alcohol may evaporate.
